Andersons' Grandmother's Ginger Cookie Recipe

Hello! In my book, Leaning On the Everlasting Arms, Grandmother tells a story about when she had made ginger cookies as a girl. Here is the recipe she made and passed down to her children and grandchildren. I made two batches of this recipe on Tuesday, and they were all finished before we went home! I hope you enjoy!

Ingredients
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 ¼ c flour
3 ½ teaspoons ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground cloves
½ teaspoon nutmeg
½ teaspoon salt
1 c white sugar + more for rolling
6 tablespoons brown sugar
¾ c butter, softened
1 egg
½ c molasses

I know it's odd that there is a crossed-off molasses on the list. I guess you'll have to read the story to find out why!

The first step is to cream the butter and sugar together.

Then, mix in the egg.

In a separate bowl, add flour, salt, and baking soda.

Add the spices.

Doesn't that ginger smell good?

Combine the two mixtures.

Preheat the oven to 350, and get out a bowl of sugar. Shape the dough into small balls, roll in sugar, and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Press down on each one.

Place in oven and cook for 10-12 minutes.

I like to take mine put before they're completely done. They usually can finish cooking if you leave them on the hot pan.

Move them to a cooling rack. Wait till they are completely cool before moving to an airtight container.

Enjoy!!! And please comment below if you try these!
