One cold November night in 1934, a mysterious visitor arrived at the door of the Bluebridge Orphanage for Girls. The dark figure came in, and introduced herself as Evangeline. After having a vision leading her here, she had traveled across the ocean from India, where she had been living at a missionary station.
Evangeline started a class for the orphaned girl, based off of one she herself had enjoyed as a girl. The class was called "A Greater Purpose," and she taught the girls about the Lord using simple props. In one of the latest classes, she brought in a caterpillar, and tried to explain how, like the caterpillar, God can transform us into new creatures. Unfortunately, it's not quite that easy to explain, and the caterpillar is currently being raced with a cricket which one of the younger girls found on the stairs earlier.
Charity, the oldest of the orphans, wondered about what she taught. "A new creature? What could she mean?" She tried to push it out of her mind, but it kept coming back. "A new creature?" Yesterday, though, something happened that took her mind off of it, for now...
Evangeline had thought that she was being sent to India to start the class, "A Greater Purpose." And that was one of the reasons. But there was also another reason of which she had no idea! After singing a song which she had made for her baby sister many, many years before, she and Charity both knew—they were sisters. They had been separated for eighteen years, and were now once again together!
Joyously they began to fill each other in on their lives, sorrowfully they thought of all the years they spent lonely, eagerly they dreamed of the unknown future. And that is where our story will begin.
These past few months have been exciting. Evangeline has brought joy and creativity into the orphanage. She helped the girls to decorate the attic, making it a happy, colorful place. She spreads her cheery, joyful attitude through the whole orphanage. And all of the girls love when she teaches the class, "A Greater Purpose." Now it is known that she and Charity are sisters.
What will these next months bring? Where will they take us?
Be on the look out for the next part!
